Kukes failed to qualify for the third round of Champions League despite a 2-1 victory in ‘Elbasan Arena’ against the Sheriff Tiraspol. The Albania’s champions played an excellent match, prevailing on the adversary during the entire 90-minutes but the fate prevented them from continuing the European adventure.
After ending the first half with a 2-0 advantage Kukesi did not manage to preserve this result that would guarantee the qualification suffering an avoidable goal that influenced negatively on the players psychological aspect.
A red card given by the referee to De Noojier gave new hopes to the Albanian team that tried unsuccessfully to score another goal. But a missed penalty by Pejic and two near-misses by the same player forced coach Gjoka’s team to face an early end of this adventure in Champions League.
