After
a brilliant season in 2016 Colorado Rapids is experiencing a very disappointing
period during the first part of 2017. This team now ranks in the last place at
the West Conference with only 1 victory in 8 matches and just 5 goals scored.
To get out
of this situation, everyone at the Colorado club turned their eyes to Shkëlzen
Gashi that finally recovered from an injury that kept him out of the field for
nearly two months. He scored 9 goals last season, thus coach Pablo Mastroeni
hopes that the Albanian footballer will be equally decisive in this edition. The
first signals were given in the match against Vancouver, where Gashi played the
entire 90 minutes.

“In
the last game he was the initiator of everything we did in the attack, breaking
the adversary’s defense lines, attacking and connecting with the entire group
of players at the same time. Even when he came back, the attack remained always
his priority. This is the mentality we needed and he displayed it in the last
game,” said Mastroeni, speaking to journalists.

The
next match for Colorado Rapids will be that against San Jose Earthquakes, where
there will also be an Albanian derby between Gashi and Hyka.
