The negative report between births and deaths is leading more and more towards the Albanian population aging, a phenomenon that has been continuously verified during the last years.

Vital statistics for the fourth quarter of 2016 reflect a decrease of approximately 23.8% of the population natural augmentation in comparison to the fourth quarter of 2015.

According to the Statistical Bulletin (SB) published by Statistics Institute (INSTAT), in the fourth quarter of 2-016 a total of 8119 births were registered, showing a decrease of 2.9% compared with the same quarter of the past year. Meanwhile the number of deaths was 5782, showing an increase of 9.1% in comparison to the fourth quarter of 2015.

Psychologists say that this decrease is impacted by high levels of immigration and the difficult economic situations experienced by the young couples. Disengagement from the labor market of young people is the main obstacle to fertilization.

Unemployment in Albania currently fluctuates at 16% level, but among young people up to 30 years, is more than 30%. But, above all, psychologists claim that Albanians have lost hope and feel insecure to create family and increasing its members’ number.
