Country energy balance is now positive
and in addition to favorable hydro conditions it comes as a result of two
factors: increase of energy production from private hydropower plants and
reduction of energy losses.

Last year, private hydropower plants
produced a record amount of 2.2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity by
providing 30 percent of total domestic production, Energy Distribution Operator
(OSHEE) said in a press announcement on Tuesday.

But besides increasing production,
energy balance has benefited from improved management in the distribution
operator. According to figures, only by reducing losses, Albania managed to
save 1.1 billion kilowatt hours of energy per year compared with three years
ago.

This result, apart from having improved
financial indicators of OSHEE, has also directly affected the energy balance of
the country, turning Albania into a net exporter of electricity, OSHEE said in
its statement.
