Hundreds of political youth protested on Wednesday in front of the French Embassy in Tirana to require the immediate release of the former prime minister and prominent politician in Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj.
"With Ramush", "Ramush is Kosovo" or "France do not disappoint us" billboards they said that Haradinaj is the symbol of freedom.
They said that France know Kosovo as an independent country and they believe that this country is not helping Serbia.
"We believe that Haradinaj's extradition is an absurd action and we urge to release him and return him in Kosovo," said the head of the Youth Movement for Integration, Floida Kerpaci.
At the same time, Kosovo's government is calling on French authorities to release a former prime minister who has been detained facing possible extradition to Serbia to face war crimes charges.
Haradinaj, 48, a guerrilla fighter in Kosovo's 1998-1999 war for independence from Serbia and now an opposition political leader, is accused by Serbia of committing kidnappings, torture and killings against Serb civilians when he was a senior rebel commander in western Kosovo.
